Choosing the Right Frames for Your Face Shape

Choosing the Right Frames for Your Face Shape

Have you ever wondered why those reading glasses looked so good on your best friend but were complete flops on you? Well, I might just have the answer for you, the frames were probably the wrong style for your face shape!

Like any other accessory, eyewear is meant to not only help you see more clearly, but if done correctly, it should also enhance your gorgeous features. The first step in finding the right pair of readers is figuring out what shape your face is.

       What is my face shape?

To accurately identify the shape of your face it is best to pull your hair back and look closely at the overall shape and contours of your face.

We have compiled a list of the seven primary face shapes and which style readers look best for each.

      Bronx Readers

      Oval Face Shape

An oval shaped face has the most balanced proportions making it the most ideal shape to have. If you have an oval face shape your face is longer than it is wide, your jaw and forehead are rounded, and there are no sharp angles on your face.

The best readers for oval faces are readers with bold shapes and colors. Square or oval shaped readers that are wider around the eye are great for emphasizing your cheekbones and making them look more contoured.

      Heart-Shaped Face

A heart-shaped face is wider at the top and gets narrower at the bottom. If you have a heart-shaped face you will have a prominent forehead, high cheekbones, and a narrow chin.

It is important for those with heart-shaped faces to choose frames that are wider at the bottom, which will help balance and complement your face. Circular, light-colored frames are often good choices.

      Oblong Face Shape

An oblong shaped face is longer than it is wide and has a long straight cheek line.

To shorten the appearance of an oblong face non-square decorative frames with contrasting temples are great for adding width to the face.

      Square Face Shape

A square face shape has a broad jawline and forehead making it almost as wide as it is long.

Just as with an oblong face shape it is important to steer clear of square shaped frames. This will draw attention to the eyes while lengthening the appearance of the face. So, stick to oval or round lenses.

      Diamond Face Shape

A diamond face shape is narrow at the forehead and jawline and has broad cheekbones. And like all great diamonds, this is the rarest of face shapes.

To highlight the eyes, it is best to find frames with distinctive brow lines. Cat-eye, oval and rectangular shaped frames are all great choices. Don’t be afraid to go bold. Flashy colors and styles make the eyes stand out and soften the sharp cheekbones.

      Round Face Shape

A round face shape is equal in width and length, has prominent cheekbones, and does not have angles.

To lengthen the appearance of the face, square or rectangular frames with bold colors are perfect. The bold contrast to the face shape creates the perfect look.

      Triangle Face Shape

A triangle face shape has a narrow forehead and widens at the cheekbones and chin.

Choose frames that are wider at the top, such as cat-eye, and are heavily accented with color and detailing on the top half of the frame. This will add width to the upper third of the face, creating a more balanced look.
